4 Developmental Disabilities That You Should Know About

We take our life for granted and that alone is enough to let us embark on our destructive lifestyles. Many do not even get that chance as they are born with disabilities or began to manifest symptoms right after puberty. Parents are aghast at this development but perhaps they should not be as the children with these disabilities are inherently human and they deserve a chance at life like anyone else does. To raise awareness during its awareness month, which is March we will be talking about some of the most prominent developmental disabilities in the ensuing words:

Tourette Syndrome

This one of the best known developmental disabilities in the world. While many do not know its name but we know that they know about it saliently as it is all about motor and vocal tics. Tics are kind of body movements that are unnatural. Some of the examples are body jerks and eye squinting. Unseeingly, these usually show up near or at the age of 6, so watch out for these tics when your kid reaches this age.

Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder

It is also one of the best known developmental disabilities in the world. This developmental disorder is characterized by impulsive behaviour that children do not grow out of. While it is natural for children to behave like this but with ADHD they never do leave this behavior alone.  A child with ADHD fidgets fingers excessively, practices risky behavior, cannot focus for long. A child can be hell bent on teasing and irritating family members.

Namely it can create stiff muscles (spasticity), make a child have uncontrollable movements (dyskinesia) and sometimes induces poor balance and coordination (ataxia). Subsequently, some children suffer from cerebral palsy in the above mentioned forms and at times it is a mix.

This one is all about physical growth delays, mildish intellectual disability and unique facial features. This usually stems from improper cell division before the prenatal stage, hence it is classified as a genetic disorder. Our nucleus carries genes that derive from our parents. All the nuclei have specific rod-like structures called chromosomes that essentially carry traits from our parents. Normally these are around 23 pairs in total. Children who have down syndrome get an extra full or partial cop 21 chromosome. This is what causes genetic mutation in children to have down syndrome.
