Everything about the congenital heart disease

We all love to listen to the best kinds of rhythms in this world. These rhythms can be thoughtful songs and classical music (which are always a bash to listen to). But do you know which is the best type of rhythm in this world? Our beating heart has rhythm of its own and perhaps, this should be what we should consider the best rhythm in the world. This is because it keeps our life going for long periods and is also one of the most beautiful things to hear in this god’s green earth. Unfortunately, this is not true for some of the population that is born in this world. To dwell on the previous sentence, here you will find everything about the congenital heart disease.

The very rhythm that we were talking about is not rhythmic at all because of the heart defects. Some children are born with congenital heart defects, so they have a life expectancy lower than what is considered to be normal. This is why we are going to talk about this congenital heart defect in the ensuing words.

Who does it affect?

The disease affects both adults and children alike but it is more prevalent in children as it is genetic and most of the time a birth defect. This is because it is a heart abnormality present at birth. The adults who have this affliction are usually the ones who had a diagnosis of it in the younger years and are also survivors of this type of birth defect. It is one of the most common birth defects in the world.

Does it have different types?

There are many different types of congenital heart defects. But they are always put into three different categories that are abundant in this world. The three different categories are:

  • Blood vessels defects
This happens to the parts of the body that take the flow of blood to various other parts of the body. The birth defect comes in when the vessels and the relating arteries do not function the way these parts should function normally.

  • Heart valve defects
When the valves that provide the heart with blood flow and entry closes up or starts to leak. This is when the defect shows up.

  • Heart wall defects
This usually happens when the left or right sides of the hearts or its left/right chambers do not develop properly. This causes the heart to store the incoming blow in places it should not exist. Therefore, this causes problems to the heart as a defect.

Additionally, these heart defects can be typified into two main types as in the way these are diagnosed. Doctors can call these heart defects Cyanotic or Acyanotic. The former is where the heart is helping produce enough oxygen too and in the latter it is the other way around. While both are characterised by dangerously pumping blood to the heart.

Causes

Mostly it is genetic. But sometimes it is nurture induced, even in adulthood. But usually it runs in the family. Nature induced is usually present at the birth but nurture induced can happen pre-birth. Diabetes, alcohol/recreational drug consumption, prescriptions drug consumption and even some kind of viral infection during pregnancy can affect a child's proper development. These are the reasons that cause heart defects to conjure up.

Precautions and treatments

Prescribed medication is paramount for survival. After consultation with a doctor, if something excessive is necessary, it can be open-heart surgery, otherwise one can go for catheter (tube insertion) procedure if the situation is not that critical. If the situation is excessively critical then it might be suggested that the afflicted person has a heart transplant.
