You may have heard about it or you may have not. Whether you did or not, it is not of importance but what it can do and how it is going to impact the future, is important. We can tell you that with stem cells, the future will be impactful for us in the long run, provided if we can make it competent enough (which is an ongoing process). Stem cells are a way to to grow cells that are engineered to replicate cells that are only found in your body. In the future, stem cells may be able to replace our damaged cells (can be due to any illness or fault), which can lead to cure of many ailments, even the ones that are considered to be incurable. Here, we are going to talk about 10 facts about stem cells.

This is why experts and researchers of the stem cell field are hard at work to work around a way to make stem cells a success story. Another use these cells have is that scientists are using research related to these cells to find a cure for incurables diseases like Cancer. These cells are providing valuable information and discoveries about how cells interact and how they regenerate.

  1. It has become an object that is used for fraud

Fraud is everywhere, we get that but fraud used in this field is a medical emergency. The victims get to be duped twice. This is because they do not just lose their funds used to funnel these fraud organisations but they can lose their health too. Stem cells field is promising field but it does not mean that stem cell therapy is already working. A lot is needed at this stage. But again, many fake doctors are already advertising it as a cure for different ailments.
 
  1. Research is advancing: An early embryo has been created

Scientists have already created a Blastocyst - an early stage of an embryo. The best thing is that these cells were not re-engineered (as they are done in the field usually) but were used cells from an existing animal (here they did it from a mouse).   1. Human embryo usage is considered to be controversial 

Human embryo use in research can provide valuable insights for research, this may even propel it towards successful completion. The scientific community is divided about it though. Many cannot come to terms with what the human embryos will be subjected to in the experiments if it is the case the experiments are freely allowed.
 
  1. Understanding stem cells is the key to regenerative medicine

We can use them for healing but we still do not understand these cells properly. The way these should be understood is scientifically, then only a regenerative field, a field that is to be reckoned with, can be made. While the research is making breakthroughs better than what happens in other fields, we still do not understand its processes. We only have reached the tip of the ice. If it is understood properly, it will propel our species into a dawn of a new era.
 
  1. There is an adult and embryonic cell in the family of stem cells

Either of them are for different purposes. Embryonic cells can be used to grow adult cells. Fully grown adult cells can be used to treat certain conditions like Thalassemia. Embryonic stem cells, as the name suggests, come from embryos. Adult stem cells come from children, infants or adults of different species.

These are respectively totipotent, multipotent, unipotent and pluripotent. Each has its own uniqueness. Cells that are in one of the earliest stages of stem cells are totipotents. Unipotent cells can give rise to new cells and can also regenerate while pluripotent are able to turn into different types of cell. Multipotent are the ones which have the tendency to give rise to different types of cells but within the boundaries of an organ. Basically they can only survive in their own organ.
 
  1. It has helped an infant from a fatal disease

In 2018, stem cells were used to save a dying in-utero infant from a fatal disease. This disease named Alpha Thalassemia is usually fatal for the young ones. This was the first ever transplant in-utero using stem cells.
 
  1. Public is not aware about it and its benefits

This should be of notice as a lot of people in this world do not know about the stem cells. Raising awareness about these cells can be one solution. Wide use of it in the future may help its popularity.
 
  1. Currently, stem cells are not safe

Researchers are actively trying to change this fact but unfortunately this is not the case. The field is in its infancy. It is still working around to find cures even though its research shows promise. The thing is that only few treatments incorporating stem cells are safe, as of right now.
